Kinja'd!!!

I got pulled over for having no front plate. Fortunately it was only a warning. The previous owner attached the front plate at a slight angle with 3 mismatched screws. It was driving me nuts and I had to take it off. Now I am not sure what to do.

Should I keep driving with no plate?

Should I attach it to the tow hook?

Should I suck it up and stick it back on (but maybe have to drill more holes)?

If the state requires you to have a plate, either mount it on the bumper or maybe put it on the dashboard?

What if you curved it and had it form fit to the bumper? Do it right, and it might actually look kind of cool.

Find a bracket system to attach to the tow hook location.

I'd put it on properly using the factory bracket .

Does your state require a front plate? (Since you got pulled over for it I assume yes) Then put one on. See if your OEM makes a front plate bracket you can get that fits the front bumper nicely. Most do, since they have to comply with state laws when they sell a car.

Find a company to make you a vinyl overlay of your license plate and stick it on the front?

Stick some foam on the back and zip tie it somewhere is what I do. Easy to remove for track/photos.

I don't run a front plate. Have gotten a ticket before but at least in my state, its a fix it ticket. So I just attached it with some quick ties, go to the police station have an officer sign off, send in the fix it ticket (don't need to pay anything) and cut the license back off.

Yup. Wrap it around the front bumper. Aren't those the mount holes in the top picture? Of course, you'll probably get in trouble for defacing the plate or something silly.

Kinja'd!!!1

In front plate states the law usually states the car must have a front mounted plate if the factory provided the means to mount one. If there is no means to mount your plate then you must have the front plate in the vehicle readily presentable or visible for inspection. Check your state laws.

NY it is a rule but not strictly enforced unless you are doing something dickish that gives them enough of a reason to pull you over. Same goes for tint, anything below 90% is illegal but they won't enforce it unless you ran a Redlight or did an illegal U-turn.

Basically I've got tint and no front plate and avoid driving like a dick and I've been pretty good.

After doing some searching (I was genuinely curious myself) I found a guy who did it with his Model S

http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php…

Looks pretty neat to me, and would probably look even better on the 997 because you could center it and not have it off to the side like that.

Yes it is pretty much the same here in Texas. My wife has been driving for almost 2 years with no plate and only got one warning. I wasn't doing anything dickish I don't think. I had just turned out of a gas station and he decided to pull me over. I think he was looking for other stuff.

Kinja'd!!!1

That top pic is a 993 RS, correct?

Kinja'd!!! Flat Six > alexotics
03/10/2015 at 17:55

Kinja'd!!!0

I don't think it is a RS:

RS has a different grill design (horizontal slats) and front spoiler shape

RS doesn't have headlight washers!

RS was never approved for sale in US

So it is probably a modified US spec car with similar aero bits and wheels.

Kinja'd!!!

Whatever it is, it's not mine; mine is the blue 997. I was afraid to take a pic of the cop, because I really wanted a warning and not to piss him off.

Ah, thanks! I was trying to wrap my head around what it was. Looks great. Your 997 does too! Very conservative colour and wheels but there's beauty to that! How long have you had it / how do you like it compared to previous rides?

A white RS doesn't look bad either.... I figure they're about 300k now?

We have 2 of these RWB monsters in town. This blue one was parked next to my 911 at a local charity event. Kind of neat.

Thanks! I love the understated look of the dark blue and simple 5 spoke wheels. Originally I wanted this car and I guess I couldn't get it out of my head:

Kinja'd!!!

I have had it for about 6 months. It's a lot of fun. Honestly I don't have much to compare against besides my old NA Miata. I've tried a few other cars recently like E90 M3, M235, Cayman, and some other 911's (and a few laps in a 430) but not enough to do a pro comparison.

I think they are "Speedline for Porsche" wheels. I think your white RS pic is actually a "RS Clubsport" because it has the bigger GT style wing. Holy **** those RWB's are mad bonkers. Very cool. What kind of 911 do you have?

I see the attraction to the 456. Is it the four seater Ferrari aspect, or the particular design of the 456? If it's the former, you'd love this Chris Harris video from when he had just sold his DD, a TDF blue FF:

I recently had a chance to try the 997 during an autocross event and I was absolutely blown away at how the "base" 911 handles, goes, sounds, and especially, stops! That day I spent most of my time in a Caterham, but also tried a 1M and various other metal. The 997 S really left me wanting one. I've also copiloted a 997 RS and raced a 996 Cup car. Also want those haha!

That sounds like an amazing day at the track!!!

Honestly, I'm not much of a race car driver so I don't need 458 or GT3 precision. I have 2 kids and enjoy taking them to car events like Cars and Coffee, or just normal errands. So it was important to have 4 seats. I like the clean beautiful lines of the 456, and the romance of the Italian V12. Yes that is a great video, and the Chris Harris FF is my favorite combo - dark blue, tan seats, non-tinted glass, 5 spoke wheels. He has impeccable taste.

Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a 4 seat Ferrari, but honestly the 911 is going to be tough to follow.
